Ghost and Goddess

पिशाचः देवता च

On the outskirts of a village a temple was there. Near by that on the tree a ghost was living. Both ghost and Goddess were talking to each other. Goddess was happy about the devotion of her disciples. But, ghost said people are cheaters and both wanted to prove their sides. What happened next is the story.

Shambunath’s Story

शम्भुनाथस्य कथा

Shambunath is an old man and fond of telling stories. He forcefully makes his grandson Shivarama, to listen to stories. But Shivarama is a young boy and is more interested in playing than listening stories. One day Shivarama brought his friend to his home and introduced to his grandfather. What happened next and how Shambunath stopped telling stories is the story.

Cheater

वञ्चकः

Raghav was a business man and used to deal in money lending also. He used to give only to those from whom he could make more money out of higher interest rates. Once a former Ramanatha wanted some money and asked Raghav to help him. Raghav did not lend him any money. Angered by this Ramanatha did a plan to teach a lesson to Raghav and also get money from him. What he did is the story.

Diligence

सूक्ष्मदृष्टिः

Shankar was wealthy person and of helping nature. So many get help from him and they show respect to him. His clerk Raghav was not like that. He speaks less and always keeps himself engaged in his work. Hari, who is friend of Shankar observed this behavior of Raghav and when he returned after two months of pilgrimage to visit Shankar, he noticed changes in Raghav's behavior. Raghav was very submissive now. He while talking with his friend Shankar appreciated Raghav's changes in behavior. But what Shankar did about it is the story.

Clarity

भ्रमनिवृत्तिः

Chaitanya and Bhanumati were newly married couple and they were wealthy too. Chaitanya went to market and bought a pearl necklace to his wife, as her birthday gift. On the way back home one of the relative of his driver asked for a lift. Unfortunately on the way they met with an accident. When Chaitanya came back home, he found the necklace missing and doubted that his driver's relative only might have stolen it. What happened next and how he got back the necklace is the story.

I am the Fool

अहम् एव मूर्खः

Shilamukha was a wealthy person. But he was miserly. He had a Mango garden. Once, when workers were plucking the fruits, one of the labor ate one mango. Angered by this he quarreled with the labor and the labor beaten him. Thus unhappy with the workers he stopped plucking the fruits. One day, a bird in his garden told him three truths and that changed his mind to realize his mistakes. What happened next is the story.

Intelligent

विवेकः

A village chief was of the habit of conducting events and rewarding the winners. Once he thought of finding out who is the best intelligent in his village. When he enquired he found three persons Rama, Soma and Bhima are the most referred. So he told them that he wanted to find out who is the most intelligent among the three and the challenge to overcome was to get back home from desert, where they will be left without food and water. What happened next and how the village chief found the most intelligent is the story.

Eligibility

अर्हता

Mohan and Sudas came from city to a Gurukul to get admission. The Guru arranged for their stay and instructed to stay some days there until suitable subject can be taught in due course. One day both went to forest to collect firewood as part of their Gurukul duties. Mohan saw a bag full of gold coins and changed his mind to stay in Gurukul. He suggested to Mohan let us go back to city and live happily with these gold. But Mohan did not agree. Sudas chosen his way back to home and on the way he was bit by a snake. What happened further and how the Guru tested the eligibility to admission into his Gurukul is the story.

Miser’s Charity

कृपणस्य दानम्

Pratapacandra was a wealthy person. As he attained old age, he got the fear of getting entry in to heaven. He consulted a saint what need to be done to secure my place in heaven after my death. The saint advised him to give donations wholeheartedly to the needy. This was overheard by a poor Brahmin and he approached wealthy person hoping to get some valuables. What extreme steps the wealthy person took to avoid donations is the story.

Passion of Acting

नाटकव्यसनम्

Govinda came to city from village to act in drama. He was passionate from childhood about acting and did not study well. Luckily he got an opportunity to act in a drama in a drama troop. As he was practicing the drama dialogue, an old neighbor took it to be real, advised him to go back to his village by giving some money and to look after his sick mother. But Govinda planned to make use of the innocence of the old wealthy person and to make money out of the situations. What happened next and how Govinda changed his mind is the story.

Short Tempered

शीघ्रकोपी

Sadananda is married to Aruna. As she entered her husband's house after marriage, her in-laws told that Sadananda is short tempered and take care while dealing with him. Sadananda assured his wife that he will not get angry with her and as days passed, his original short temper started showing up. Aruna observed that her husband displays anger without any reason. One day, Sadananda invited a Saint to his house and asked to suggest relief to his temperament. What the saint did and how both Aruna and Sadananda lived happily thereafter is the story.

Test of God

देवस्य परीक्षा

Shivadasa preaches qualities of God. One day he went to a village and was giving discourse. He said that God takes care of every living thing in this world. God feeds everyone. But, Sudarsha did not accept it. He asked if I do not eat deliberately will God feed me forcefully. Shivadasa said if God willing you will be fed in whatever way. And Sudarsha wanted to test it by not eating. How a chain of events made him to eat forcefully is the story.

Farming and Gold

कृषिः सुवर्णं च

Rama was living in a village with his wife. He had farming land inherited from his father. But Rama was lazy and did not do farming activities. His wife asked him to do business if he is not interested in farming works. Rama consulted his friend, the ways to make quick money. His friend advised different ways. But Rama wanted to make large sum of money in a single day. His friend said that in that case you have to steal. Rama was convinced and he planned to steal. What he did and how his mind was opened up to the reality is the story.

Avoid Too Much Everywhere

अति सर्वत्र वर्जयेत्

Aditya and Vimala are married and living in a village. Aditya is of the habit of talking too much. Vimala did not like her husband's talkative nature and advised him to avoid it. But, the habit did not die down. Dejected by her husband's talkative nature Vimala started talking less and gradually she was keeping silence in most of the situations. One day she went to her friend's marriage and a sequence of incidences caused trouble both to her and his husband because of the nature of keeping too much silence and too much talkativeness. How they both realized it is the story.

Handicap

विकलाङ्गाः

Sudhir was very handsome by birth. Everyone in the village praised his handsomeness and because of that he became pride of his outlook. In that village four handicaps were also living. Sudhir with his playful nature and out of pride about his physique used to make fun of those handicaps. One day, they all cursed him and that made him to stop making fun of handicaps. But, when he got married and his wife was about to deliver a baby, Sudhir was fearful about the curse and how he took remedial steps to come out of that fear is the story.
